Project Management

Do your projects always run smoothly?

Richard is a chartered civil and structural Engineer (MICE) with 30+ years of experience in delivery of projects in civil construction and offshore oil and gas. Complementing Richard’s experience he has worked extensively as an engineer and Project Manager in the subsea environments of the North Sea, Arctic Circle and Atlantic in projects from £5k to over £1billion.  Being a member of the Association of Project Management (APM) Richard has the Project Management Qualification (PMQ) as awarded by the APM and has delivered the PMQ course. Through this blend of academic and work experience he fully understands the lifecycle of projects and the issues organisations often face.

The APM defines Project Management as “The process by which projects are defined, planned, monitored, controlled and delivered so that agreed benefits are realised.”

The project lifecycle as defined by the APM is

  • Concept – At this stage the problem is identified together with potential requirements and solutions.
  • Definition – The requirements are formed into solutions and defined more closely, culminating in a robust Business Case and definition of design and issue of scope of work.
  • Development – This part involves engagement of Contractor (if required) and delivery or construction of the works or project.
  • Handover & Closure – This stage requires project or works completion, commissioning before being passed on to the operator
  • Benefits Realisation – This stage requires post project review to ensure the outputs, outcomes and benefits have been met.
